21181 MINECRAFT The Rabbit Ranch
21181 MINECRAFT The Rabbit Ranch
Here's another MINECRAFT set that I have been pining for a while now. It's priced fairly and has a lot of little details like sunflowers, so this is definitely a kit that will meet the standards for many children and AFOLs. It's quite a change from the jumper-loaded sets just a year or two ago, but this phenomenon is explainable. Minecraft has undergone many changes over the years. 21181 MINECRAFT The Rabbit Ranch is a perfect example of this. Anyway, let's dive into this review.
This set is for 8+ and contains 340 pieces to build a giant rabbit house, a small farm, some rabbits, and 2 minifigures. This is a great lot of stuff that you get here for the price, which is $29.99.
Here is the box, and let me say that this is probably one of the most accurate graphics on a LEGO set I have ever seen. This is what you get.
Let's start off with the rabbit house. It's a really clean little build, and it houses a crafting table and a torch (?), but there is still a comfortable space to store stuff. I'm not sure why this wasn't used up, because for a ranch, you would need more supplies and tools. Anyway, it's a nice build but it doesn't deserve to be the focus of this set. I mean, half of it is empty, and it doesn't house any functions or notable features. That's just my opinion.
One thing: the fences in front of the rabbit are part of the rabbit itself, and the fences themselves house nothing, unless you put a rabbit in there.
Let's look at the farm section of the set now.
This is the childish function of this set, and it's actually really cool and fun to mess around with, but not Minecraft-enough.
Basically, you pull down the lever on the back of the hill. Then, anything positioned on a certain brick will go flying up. I guess that this is supposed to be a 'jumping' function, but it really doesn't do much for me. I like the front of the hill better, since it is covered with crops and flowers, like carrots and sunflowers.
Although I'm satisfied with the front of the hill, one thing confuses me. Sunflowers in Minecraft always face in the direction where the sun rises, which is in the east, but the flowers here are facing in totally different directions. This is more realistic, but I would've liked this to be more Minecraft since it is a MINECRAFT set.
Here is another function in the cave section. You put a TNT block on top of a rubber TECHNIC part and then pull down a ball-pin to launch the TNT in the air, knocking off a chunk of the cave's ceiling. It's basically a catapult used in a very clever way and I'm happy this turned up. This has got to be one of my favorite things about this set.
Anyway, this just about ends the review for today. More articles are coming since this really a big year for LEGO. I'll be sure to do something on the VIP reward caps.
This The Rabbit Ranch starts at around $29.99.
