60319 CITY Fire Rescue & Police Chase
60319 CITY Fire Rescue & Police Chase
Today, I present to you the 60319 Fire Rescue & Police Chase set, from the CITY theme. It's a new set, and it includes some of the new elements and colors for CITY, like the cat mold, and the new color vibrant yellow. This set is for children 5 and up, and includes 260 pieces. The set includes a pickup truck, a quadcopter, a motorcycle, a muscle car and a side build with a power substation and traffic light. It also comes with 3 minifigures, including a fireman named Bob.
I really like this set because it's just like an affordable starter pack for emergency services, with the cops and firemen and criminals and all. The roadside substation also adds some color to this set, and even though it is mostly for display, the sliding plate in front moves up to reveal cables and batteries, which is a nice play function.
The motorcycle isn't that special, but it's still pretty nice that it was included instead of a police car or something like that, which are way too overused. The police officer who is supposed to drive this vehicle has great torso printing, and it makes this fig able to fit in with any type of police officer from any wave of sets.
The fire truck, however pickup-like it may seem, doesn't actually have any space to store stuff in the back. Instead, there are mounts for the quadcopter when it isn't active. I feel like this use of space for mini drones has become more prominent in the CITY theme, especially for fire sets.
To be honest, the truck doesn't really do much for me. It's just the same usual one-seater with the barring at the front and the huge tyres. That's one thing I don't care for: extensive use of the same truck, but with minor differences.
Here is the roadside traffic light and substation. The traffic light, when hit, swings down, supposedly causing a fire. The new CITY fire piece is attached to a axle piece which allows it to swing down when the splat projectiles from the quadcopter hit it. Actually, the quadcopter's ability to fire these splats (which is supposed to be water) is the set's action feature, which isn't such a big deal, but it is kinda cool. You've gotta admit it...
Like I said before, the sliding plate on the station can fold up to reveal cables and other stuff to power up its nearby surroundings like lights, specifically that traffic light. Apart from these two features, there's nothing really else here in this side build.
Here are the minifigs. I already talked about Bob and the police officer, so we'll look at the criminal now. This criminal has the usual ladies' hair piece, with your classic criminal inmate uniform and female robber face piece, with the mask and worried grin.
The set looks pretty wild here, and what I want to discuss now is the muscle car, the getaway vehicle, or whatever you want to call this beautiful vehicle. The color scheme doesn't sound so right, but that thought immediately changes when you actually lay eyes on this beauty. The scheme is black and teal, an interesting combination, but nonetheless go together splendidly. This car is a one-seater, with a compartment at the back for storing the stolen money the criminal has hoarded. Although this car is built around the same base as almost every other car in LEGO CITY, this powerful vehicle is still quite unique.
Overall, this set is a great starter if you want to collect cops and firemen at once, but it's also great for play and the design hasn't failed to satisfy me (except the truck; it's okay). I recommend this if you just feel like you need police and firemen but don't want to buy a starter pack. But anyway, I'm not even sure they sell those anymore, so whatever.
This Fire Rescue & Police Chase starts at around $39.99.
